The Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Lenia Batresspoke in favor of the judicial reform and said that the position of judge is a public service and not a title of nobility.

During an information meeting, in Ecatepec, State of MexicoThe minister stated that “the position of judge is not for one person, currently it is exercised as if they were noble titles and it is even claimed that it is the merit of someone who has had a career of who knows how many years and it seems that it is for one person, that it is a recognition to put on the wall and there the pinnacle of a person’s career is reached.”

Batres spoke in favor of the election of judges and ministers by popular vote, because he pointed out that judges who are elected by this means, in addition to their decisions being based on judicial criteria, will have social legitimacy.

He considered that federal judges must act with transparency, honesty and rationality, as well as with sensitivity and social conscience, and therefore they must use public resources to help society and not to obtain privileges.

Minister Lenia Batres has participated in various forums on judicial reform, in which she has spoken in favor of the president’s proposal Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador that next year there will be elections to choose more than 1,500 judges and magistrates and the current ones will be dismissed.
