The power of the level-headed: Otto “Bulletproof” Karasch, the winner of “7 vs wild”, in a big interview! | free press

Free Press: Do you think YouTube is democratic? In many reactions you can already see that the majority of users also deal with content critically and openly…

Karasch: Ultimately, YouTube is only so successful because you can easily exchange ideas with like-minded people. When I found the severed shark heads on the island in “7 vs wild”, Marc Robert Lehmann immediately started a fundraising campaign for species protection, and several 100,000 euros were raised in a few hours. That’s pretty unique. If you want to do something good, YouTube is a great platform! When I’m asked about collaborations, I always make it very clear that a certain amount has to be put in my donation box, and once a year I decide with the community what to do with the money.

Free Press: However, this can also hang by a thread, as was recently seen with “JP Performance”, one of the most successful German channels: It was hacked and has been deleted for the time being, years of work simply seem to have disappeared. Does that scare you as a Youtuber?

Karasch: (thinks) No. Something like that can always happen, I’m not driven by fear. For example, shortly after Christmas, my Macbook was stolen from my car. It doesn’t even increase my heart rate. I just don’t develop a grudge, I’m just a fundamentally positive person!

Free Press: Can this be learned? Do you breathe that away? Or are you really that deeply relaxed?

Karasch: I do not know why that is. As a soldier, I experienced a lot of deprivation on missions, that certainly plays a role. But I can’t tell if that’s where it came from. Maybe it’s because I grew up very down-to-earth with a really good tone. It’s really hard to lure me out of my reserve. (laughs)

Free Press: Is that why you generally maintain this strikingly good tone in your communication?

Karasch: Of course, with my military content, I offer a target for attack, but it’s always important to me to keep a friendly tone. I have also received very insulting messages on Instagram along the lines of: Bundeswehr, everything is right and murderers! I didn’t ignore that, but started a conversation and wrote back: Hey. let’s talk, you don’t even know me. For example, I am married to a woman who is not from Germany. Which then led to him saying, “Hey, I’m sorry, that wasn’t my intention. I was having a bad day!” I’m trying to clarify this in a human way. If you discuss and talk calmly, you can clear up a lot these days!

To person Ottogerd Karasch was born on December 16, 1982. In 2002, after leaving school, he committed himself to the Bundeswehr for twelve years, where he was stationed as a paratrooper in Afghanistan and was involved in several combat missions in Kunduz, Mazar-e Sharif and Kabul. As a senior sergeant, he was awarded the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor in Gold in 2009 for special services. In 2005 he founded a company that imports American specialties to Europe. He is currently the managing director of US Supermarket GmbH and is committed to spreading American football in this country.
