There were no surprises and the pacts between PP and Vox worked in practically all the municipalities where they could take place in Castilla-La Mancha. Only Albacete, which is the most populous city in the region, let slip the possibility of a coalition government between both forces. There it will be the PP who alone, with twelve councilors, will command the executive action, without any member of Vox within the government team. It was the force with the most votes and will continue its path in the minority, trying to agree in each case with the different political groups.
In the rest, the roadmap was fulfilled perfectly. Tole.do remained to be staged and yesterday it became clear that both Carlos Velázquez and Inés Cañizares were breathing. The first is already mayor and the second, vice mayor, after the decree signed by Velázquez after his inauguration.
The truth is that Carlos Velázquez already holds the baton of command of the regional capital, which was given to him by his predecessor, the socialist Milagros Tolón. The curious circumstance occurs that, just constituted the Consistory, both Milagros Tolón and Inés Cañizares will occupy the number two of their respective political formations for the province of Toledo in the general elections called for next July 23. In this first month of the legislature, both will continue with their electoral campaign, in this case with their sights set on Congress.
In his inauguration speech, Carlos Velázquez advocated working together and without partisanship. “We are going to show that we are the council of all, without labels, because Toledo needs a solid and agreed project,” he said. There is a kind of dividing line between the East and West of the region, which will determine that the provinces of Toledo and Ciudad Real fall on the side of the PP and Albacete, Cuenca and Guadalajara, on the side of the PSOE.
What will not change hands will be the Community Board, although Emiliano García-Page will now have to deal with other mayors than his, from a different party.
