The Prado and its collection have always been a source of inspiration for writers such as Eugenio d’Ors (This year marks the centenary of ‘Three hours in the Prado Museum’), Philippe Lançon or Muñoz Molina, among many others. Now, the museum and the Loewe Foundation are launching the joint project ‘Write the Prado’. This initiative now takes up the trail of these authors. For three years, the Loewe Foundation will finance two annual residencies that will allow renowned international writers to investigate and immerse themselves in the history and essence of the Prado.

A committee will choose the authors from a selection of writers who have shown a marked interest in exploring the phenomenon of art through language and who wish to commit to this new project. The participating authors will share their experiences in a literary text that will be published by the museum and the magazine ‘Granta’. This and her editor, Valerie Mileswill act as advisors to the project and promote its international reach.

During his stay, which will last between three weeks and two months, the writer-in-residence will have the opportunity to establish a link and interact with the Prado collection. For this, he will have access to the workshops, bibliographies and rooms of the collection, both public and private, and to meetings with specialists, historians, art historians, technicians and restorers, as well as other creatives.

As a long-time admirer of the Prado and its collections, Loewe’s Creative Director Jonathan Anderson says: “The museum houses many of my favorite paintings, some of which have inspired designs from past runway collections, such as ‘Las Meninas’. ‘ by Velazquez. This project is an incredible opportunity to delve into the endlessly inspiring world of the Prado Museum and make exciting new intercultural connections.”
