A campaign video by Ahmet Dogan’s Alliance for Rights and Freedoms, circulated on social media, blasted the Jewish community last Thursday, and after a backlash, it was deleted.
The video showed footage of the destruction in <a href="https://time.news/elon-musk-visits-israel-after-controversy-over-anti-semitism/" title="Elon Musk visits Israel after controversy over anti-Semitism”>Gaza with the explanation that “brothers and sisters” there were being subjected to genocide and ethnic cleansing. The writer Lea Cohen and the organization of Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom” strongly objected to it.
“I am shocked by the election clip of the “Alliance for Rights and Freedoms”. It uses footage of destroyed buildings from Gaza, as well as ambulances, which suggest one-sidedness in the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The footage sows hatred and division in the days and hours when the country is assessing threats to its security,” Cohen wrote on Facebook.
“I consider it absurd to equate the situation of Bulgarian citizens of a certain ethnic origin with citizens of other countries (called in the clip “brothers and sisters”?), making suggestions and direct messages directed against ethnic peace in the country and the Bulgarian traditions of peace and tolerance,” Cohen continues. For her, the messages in the clip directly violate ethnic peace, order and law in our country, but also sympathize with organizations declared by our country as terrorist.
In this spirit was the position of “Shalom”. “Through the video, the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms is trying to agitate its constituents by inciting hatred of Israel and Jews, claiming that their former DPS party members support ‘the slaughter of their brothers and sisters in Gaza,'” they wrote. According to “Shalom”, the clip creates false impressions about the situation in our country, “by destroying the good relations built over many years between Bulgaria and its allies”. The organization has appealed to the CEC, CEM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“This is an attempt to radicalize Muslims and turn them against Israel as an instrument for the upcoming elections. I didn’t imagine that such moral degradation could be reached!” commented the chairman of “Shalom” Alexander Oscar on Facebook.
