The preservation of Amazigh ancestral heritage at the center of a meeting in Paris

During a meeting-debate initiated by the associations “Al Wasseela” and “Ouled Noumer” and the Consulates General of Morocco in Paris and Colombes, in partnership with the Maison du Maroc Foundation, the emphasis was placed on wealth of the Kingdom’s Amazigh ancestral intangible cultural heritage, “a true treasure”, as well as its role in the preservation of Moroccan cultural diversity.

Speaking on this occasion, the artistic director of the Timitar Festival in Agadir and founder of “Visa For Music” (VFM), Brahim El Mazned, indicated that “the cultural wealth which makes up our plural identity is important to preserve our common intangible heritage” .

Welcoming the decision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to establish January 14 as an official national holiday, like the first Moharram of the Hegira year and New Year’s Day of the Gregorian calendar, Mr. El Mazned noted that this Royal Initiative was warmly welcomed by all Moroccans.

Highlighting the diversity of cultural events scheduled both in Morocco and abroad for the festivities celebrating this Amazigh year, he noted that these encompassed a varied range of activities such as concerts, debates and exhibitions.

For his part, the professor at the Faculty of Languages, Arts and Human Sciences of Ait Melloul – Ibn Zohr Agadir University, Lahoucine Bouyaakoubi, insisted on the imperative to actively engage in the preservation of the language and Amazigh culture, considered a national wealth and a heritage common to all Moroccans.

“It becomes imperative to take more measures to preserve this heritage, threatened by oblivion, in particular the language which conveys it,” he said, calling on Moroccans around the world (MDM) to play the role of trait of union for future generations.

The president of the “Al Wasseela” Association, Malika El Bouchtaoui, for her part, underlined the need to promote Amazigh culture as a major cultural and heritage component of the multicultural history of the Kingdom, calling on all MDM to contribute to its preservation.

“For the transmission of our multiple Moroccan culture, we are counting on each of you, so that together, the light of Morocco continues to shine,” she said.

This meeting-debate, under the theme “ancestral heritage is celebrated in music in homage to the Earth”, was followed by a musical evening which captivated an audience from various backgrounds, who offered themselves the opportunity to admire captivating melodies and emblematic songs of Amazigh music presented by, among others, the troupes “Ribab Fusion” and “Ahwach France Tiznit”.

This event, which took place in a festive and warm atmosphere, in the presence, in particular, of the Consul General of Morocco in Paris, Nada Bakkali Hassani, the Consul General of Morocco in Colombes, Hiba Iraki Housseyni, the Consul General of Morocco in Orly, Mohamed El Hjiri, local elected officials, academicians, researchers, Moroccan and French cultural and associative actors, was also marked by an exhibition of artisanal products reflecting the specificities and richness of Amazigh culture Moroccan.

Clothing traditions were also in the spotlight during this event which allowed the audience to immerse themselves in Amazigh culture in its different facets and manifestations. It also allowed them to enjoy a moment of sharing typically Amazigh culinary flavors.
