The presidency reacted to the discussions regarding the possibility of R. Žemaitaič taking the position of prime minister: sharing posts early

by times news cr

“It is too early to share posts two months before the elections. Only after the voters express their will, it will be possible to talk about potential candidates and evaluate their possibilities”, said Tomas Beržinskas, adviser to the country’s leader, in a comment sent to Elta.

ELTA reminds that Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, the leader of the Social Democrats, who are considered the favorites for the October Seimas elections, hinted that she would not rule out the possibility of forming a ruling coalition with Nemunas Aušra.

The chairman of this party, R. Žemaitaitis, also stated that he sees an opportunity for cooperation. In addition, he did not hide that he could see himself in both the minister’s and the prime minister’s chair. However, according to the ex-parliamentarian, he would take over the leadership of the Government if the president showed the appropriate position.

“The decision is in the hands of the president. I think that the highest institution in Lithuania is the president, according to the Constitution. If it suits the president, if the president expresses such a position, it would be the cornerstone of what I would go for,” said R. Žemaitaitis last week.

The opposition parties also reacted to the deliberations on cooperation. According to them, the former MP’s populism and rash statements can hinder joint work.
