The President of the Republic, Head of State, discussions with the Secretary General of the OACPS

Libreville – April 26, 2023-The President of the Republic, Head of State, HE Ali Bongo Ondimba, met today at the Palais Rénovation with the Secretary General of the Organization of African, Caribbean and of the Pacific (OEACP), Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti.


This first visit by the Angolan diplomat to Gabon as Secretary General of the OACPS was an opportunity to discuss with the Head of State current regional, continental and international issues, as well as the subjects of ‘common interest.

During this audience, the Secretary General of the OACPS presented his Organization to the President of the Republic, indicating that it had been created in December 2019 in Kenya, instead of the Africa Caribbean Pacific Group (ACP), created on June 6, 1975 by the Georgetown Accord.

The OACPS aims to guarantee the prosperity of its Member States through triangular and multifaceted South-South cooperation, with a development partner which is the European Union.

He told the Head of State that a new Cooperation Agreement, post-Cotonou, currently under negotiation, would be the instrument that would finance the development of all the Member States over the next few years.

The said Agreement should enable the European Union and the 79 countries of the OACPS to implement cooperation agreements in various fields and to finance development programs and projects.

This Agreement provides funding of 30.1 billion euros for Africa, 800 million euros for the Caribbean countries and 500 million euros for those of the Pacific.

In an Organization whose arrears of contributions hamper the proper functioning, the Secretary General of the OACPS praised the exemplary nature of Gabon, up to date with its contributions, and its very active role within the Committee of Ambassadors of the OACPS.

He also welcomed Gabon’s political stability and expressed his appreciation for our country’s development policy, based on the Emerging Gabon Strategic Plan (PSGE), implemented through the Transformation Acceleration Plan. (PAT), which should ultimately improve the well-being of Gabonese populations.

In his African tour, before Gabon, Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti visited Congo and the DRC. He will then go to Nigeria, the last stage of his journey during which he will have presented to the Heads of State of these countries the Organization he leads in order to gather their support and accompaniment in the quest for new partnerships.
