The first session of the Technical Coordination Committee for the Fight Against Corruption was held at the Casa de Nariño, to combat one of the most persistent problems in the country.

This roundtable was created by presidential directive by President Gustavo Petro, who has stressed the importance of strengthening transparency at all levels of public administration.

The meeting was chaired by Laura Sarabia, director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency (DAPRE), and Andrés Idárraga, Secretary of TransparencyBoth leaders stressed the need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to combat corruption, especially in the contracting processes of entities with special regimes, where the lack of transparency has been a recurring theme.

During the session, the internal regulations of the table were reviewed and discussed, a fundamental document for the effective functioning of this body. It is expected that the regulations will be approved at the next meeting, with the support of all members.In addition, priority issues to be addressed in the short term were identified, with the aim of developing a work plan that articulates government actions aimed at reducing impunity in acts of corruption.

Laura Sarabia highlighted in her speech: «The president’s commitment is to fight corruption”The DAPRE director stressed the urgency of ensuring greater transparency and access to information in contracting processes, emphasizing the responsibility of entities with special regimes to comply with these standards.

A report presented by the National Agency for the Legal Defense of the State detailed the progress in the implementation of Presidential Directive 04 of 2024. This document highlights the support provided to public entities in their role as victims of corruption, ensuring that they have the necessary support in their legal defense processes.

Andrés Idárraga, for his part, stressed the importance of collaboration between all national entities in the fight against corruption. As part of this strategy, more than 236 national entities, under the direct authority of the president, will be required to submit a detailed report within a maximum period of 10 days on any alert or finding related to corruption in the last six years. This measure seeks to gather crucial information on possible irregularities in the management of public resources.

Likewise, the Administrative Department of the Civil Service will be asked to provide a detailed diagnosis on compliance with the obligation to declare assets, income and conflicts of interest by all public officials. New guidelines will be issued to ensure that this requirement is rigorously met, reinforcing the mechanisms of transparency and accountability within the public administration.
