The President of the Argentine Water Chamber welcomes the Moroccan experience in desalination
Buenos Aires – The president of the Argentine Water Chamber (CAA), Gonzalo Meschengieser, praised the Moroccan experience in the field of seawater desalination to overcome the problem of water stress, calling for cooperation between his country and the Kingdom in this area.
“Morocco has experience in desalination that Argentina lacks,” said the Argentine expert, highlighting the program to build 20 desalination plants by 2030, including the one in Casablanca “which is at the forefront in terms of size and technology used.”
Mr. Meschengieser also highlighted the objective set by Morocco to produce, thanks to these desalination plants, approximately 1.7 billion cubic meters of water per year, stressing the relevance of the National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation 2020-2027.
“Argentina and Morocco have enormous potential to work together” in this area, said the president of the CAA, which brings together all the companies in the water and sanitation sector in Argentina.
The expert also highlighted Morocco’s contribution in the field of water diplomacy, noting that the Kingdom could provide its experience “in terms of desalination by reverse osmosis and especially in the use of renewable energies, because in Argentina the problem of desalination is confronted with the high cost of energy.”
Referring to his country’s experience in water basin management and the development of water master plans, Mr. Meschengieser said that the two countries “have a lot to offer each other” in water management.
