The president of the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation, Anton Kojabashev, accused the Olympic champion Carlos Nassar of lying and demanded that he undergo a lie detector test.
“Carlos Nassar is a talented and smiling boy with a sense of responsibility and incredible achievements. He is a good athlete and I wish him to be a good person as well. He told many lies about me and about the federation. Nobody asked him for 30% of his sponsorship agreements. If he is brave, let’s go to the polygraph and let the truth come out. If someone asked him, I will immediately bring him to justice, because I did not ask him for anything, I swear BNT Kodjabashev.
Earlier this week, Nassar announced that there was no way to warm relations with the barbell federation and to return to training with the national team.
“The pay problem will not be fixed, there will probably be problems in the future. We just need to change the leadership. We are probably the most problematic federation. If you look, over the years the presidents of the federations change, but in the conflict there remains one who don’t move. This is Ivan Ivanov,” said Nassar.
Later, Kodjabashev sent an open letter to the media, in which he tried to clarify the situation surrounding the accumulated debts of the federation, because of which athletes and coaches have not received salaries since the beginning of the year.
Kojabashev points out that this is due to illegal embezzlement by the previous president of the federation, Arif Majid, in the period 2022-2023, with the liabilities approaching one million leva.
