The President of the TRC said that this progress report includes research, testimonies of survivors still alive from the cyclical crises that have bereaved Burundi. This report also reviews the years before independence until the eve of it, he continued.

The Vice-President of the Republic Prosper Bazombanza recommended that the description of this painful past be spread out in broad daylight, not to awaken the old divisionist demons, but to allow Burundians to know the past and to reconcile.

“May this truth enlighten young people about the past and may it serve as a lesson to them so as not to fall back into the cycles of violence that have characterized the country,” said the Vice-President of the Republic. That young people can hold hands in order to achieve the vision of the Head of State to make Burundi an emerging country in 2040 and a developed country in 2060, he concluded.
