The Presidential Council discusses supporting and developing the higher education and scientific research sector

The Deputy of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, discussed ways to support and develop the higher education and scientific research sector, and follow up on the steps of Libyan universities and academies in studying the problems and crises facing the sector, and proposing the best ways to address them.

This came during a meeting held on Tuesday with the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Imran Al-Qaib, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli, in the presence of the President of the Libyan Academy, a number of directors of departments and offices, the head of the Ministry’s advisory committee, and a member of the General Syndicate of University Faculty Members.

According to what was reported by the media office of the Presidential Council, the Minister and the directors of departments and offices provided a briefing on the Ministry’s preparations to receive the new academic year, launch doctoral programs in Libyan universities, overcome all difficulties facing them, and activate the role of women in all university institutions.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Al-Lafi attended part of the implementation of a workshop on the central digital library in Libyan universities, a project that will enable researchers in Libyan universities to deal with a significant number of database platforms that allow access to hundreds of thousands of books, periodicals and digital publications.

In his speech, Al-Lafi stressed the importance of digital transformation projects, especially in the field of research and publishing, praising the Ministry’s interest in developing the performance of libraries and raising the level of service they provide in a scientific manner.
