The price of electricity climbs to 80.31 euros MWh after the minimum of 10.63 euros for Christmas

The price of light climbs clearly this Monday to the 80,31 euros MWh after the minimum of 10.63 euros marked for Christmas, the lowest price since May 2021, according to the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE). Despite this rise of 70 euros and 700%, the cost of electricity is lower than a week ago – on Monday 19 December – when it was 96.41 euros MWh. Compared to a year ago, the price of electricity for Sant Esteve has fallen by 43% (188.53 euros MWh). By time slots, and excluding the adjustment, the most expensive hour will be between eight and nine in the evening with a peak of 189.26 euros MWh, while the cheapest slot will be between four and six in the morning with 24.10 euros per MWh.

If the so-called ‘Iberian exception‘, the wholesale price of electricity this Sant Esteve would be 129.25 euros MWh, about 50 euros more expensive, as detailed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. Compared to other countries in the area, Spain continues to have the cheapest electricity in relation to Italy (172.3 euros MWh), Greece (198.2 euros MWh) or Ireland (216.8 euros MWh).
