The cost of the basic family basket June had a reduction minimum compared to the previous month. The figures published by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) place it at USD 795,75while in May 2024 it cost USD 799,73.
The basic vital basket, meanwhile, is valued at USD 555,58.
The INEC explains that the basic and vital family baskets correspond to the set of goods and services essential to satisfy the basic needs of a household made up of four members. The Basic Family Basket is made up of 75 products, while the vital basket is made up of 73.
Cost by cities
Cuenca and Manta remain the cities with the most expensive basic family basket in the country: USD 834.95 and USD 832.20, respectively. The values are not far from the same period of the previous year; in June 2023 they were USD 802.73 and USD 802.04.
Next comes Quito, with a cost of USD 814.66; Guayaquil, USD 804.68; Loja, USD 796.23; Ambato, USD 777.48 and Esmeraldas, USD 777.08.
The average price in the Costa region is USD 785.67 and in the Sierra it is USD 805.83.
Inflation in June 2024
Monthly inflation in June, compared to the previous month, was -0.95%. While compared to June 2023, it reached 1.18%; as a reference, in June 2023 it was 1.69%.
The monthly price research is carried out in approximately 5,239 economic establishments and 3,942 rented homes in urban areas, in nine cities in the country.
