Bad news for patient wallets.

It is one of the tragedies of society: postponing or giving up treatment, when the state of health requires it, the minimuman appointment with a doctor. Far from being a marginal phenomenon, this affects many French people who, for various reasons, do not take care of themselves as they should. Various reasons explain this: delays in getting appointments, medical deserts or even the cost of the consultation.

According to a study published by Western Francearound 1 in 4 French people have already given up on medical treatment or tests due to the amount of the bill. If on paper the expenses are covered by social security and mutual funds, the reality is often very different due to tariff overruns. Very often it is among specialists that the bill skyrockets. One of these will see its prices rise in a few months.

This is one of the imponderables for women: regularly consult a gynecologist. There are two types: the obstetrician gynecologist and the medical gynecologist. The first is suitable for all checks to be carried out, including pregnancy, while the second is not qualified for pregnancy and childbirth. An appointment that often has a very high cost.

From 1 December 2024, going to the gynecologist will cost at least 37 euros, compared to 33.50 today. But this rate will only be in effect for a few months. From 1 July 2025 a new price will be applied: €40 per consultation. This is an increase of almost 20% in less than a year. Knowing that the price simply increased from €32 to €33.50 in two years.

For French women followed by a gynecologist who applies basic rates, this changes almost nothing for them: social security and health insurance will continue to cover everything. However, since the amount reimbursed by the health insurance company will be higher, the annual price of the insurance company will increase (along with the increase in other health costs).

However, this increase could hide “good” news. Many patients have to pay much more than the basic rate, especially in large cities. However, the amount exceeding this basic fee is entirely the responsibility of the person. As the base fee increases, the portion paid by the patient may then decrease, if the specialist does not increase his fees. Which is not won.
