Twitch is announcing a new increase in subscription fees on its site. The latter comes only two months after the previous price increase.
Bad news for streamers on Twitch and their subscribers. The company has just indicated through a press release that the price of subscriptions on the site and mobile app will increase soon. This change will be effective from October 1 for new subscribers and from November 1 for subscription renewals:
“On October 1, we increased the price of Tier 1 subscriptions and premium subscriptions on the mobile app in 40 countries. We are in the process of notifying the affected streams and subscribers by email.”
This increase concerns, at least, the United States but other countries have not yet announced. However, the news did not take long to raise eyebrows among many streaming communities.
It should be noted, however, that this increase currently only concerns subscriptions purchased through the Twitch mobile app on Android and iOS. This could be a way for Amazon, the owner of Twitch, to balance the costs of the two mobile systems.
This increase brings the price of the 1st tier to $7.99. The cost of the subscription has already increased in early July, going from $4.99 to $5.99. This represents an increase of almost 60% in just four months for the live video streaming platform.
