the price wave is moving down the Danube, onlookers are causing the most trouble – Dunakanyar Region

by time news

The tidal wave is moving down the Danube, the biggest problem is caused by onlookers who hinder the work and endanger the embankments, the National Directorate General of Water (OVF) told MTI during the day on Friday.

They wrote that at the time of their announcement, the river reached its peak in the area of Lábatlan, the dams are now under extreme strain, and the role and expertise of the hydrologists providing monitoring services is now crucial.

The biggest problem is caused by onlookers, who hinder the work and endanger the embankments, therefore the OVF asks for common sense and cooperation from the population, and draws attention to the fact that no one should go to the defense sites who have no business there.

According to the information, the cyclone that caused the previous rains has left the area, the rainfall has stopped in the watersheds, and what is still likely in the middle of next week will not affect the tide.

Slow subsidence is taking place in the Hungarian section of the Danube, the river peaks at settlements further down

– they said, adding that the water level reached its highest point at Nagybajcs on Thursday morning, at Gönyű in the evening, and at Komárom at dawn on Friday.

At Nagybajcs, the river has receded by more than 20 centimeters since then, and this trend will continue in the coming days, they explained.

In Hungary, it is expected that the highest water level of the river going down the Danube will exceed the third stage almost everywhere at the local water level, in Esztergom the river will probably peak during the day on Friday, and at Nagymaros at night, they said.

It was pointed out that

the water level in Budapest exceeded the level of the third degree on the night of Friday, the peak is expected in the capital on Saturday above the level of the third degree, around 830-840 centimeters.

In Rábán to Árpás, below the grade, and in Győr above the level of the third grade, we can expect a peak at the beginning of next week.

Thanks to the opening of the emergency reservoir in Lajtán, the water level at Mosonmagyaróvár peaked at 286 centimeters at night, about 30 centimeters lower than the highest water level ever measured, the OVF announced.

Due to the slow and persistent flooding, the dams in the Danube bend are now receiving the greatest load, the temporary defenses have to withstand such pressure that unexpected phenomena such as seepage or heave can occur at any time, which threaten the stability of the embankments.

The expertise of the water officers is now crucial, they emphasized, adding that their employees are on constant watch and intervene immediately if they see an anomaly.

The OVF once again urges the public not to stare at the protection sites, because they obstruct the work and endanger the dams, the workers there and everyone else.

Thanking them for their support, encouragement and care, they drew attention to not posting offers on social media sites, as they cannot handle it there. Contact charitable organizations for donations, and Útinform for closures.

In their statement, they requested that the phone number of the so-called flood line be called only for water and flood information. Volunteers filling sandbags are no longer needed, the relevant municipalities can provide information on the current ways of helping.
