The prices of the main grain commodities on world exchanges

The penultimate week of August did not bring any surprises in the development of the prices of the main grain commodities on the world stock markets, according to the experts of the Sofia Stock Exchange (SSE), BTA reported.

The FOB (Free On Board) price of bread wheat in Chicago fell $2 to $215 a tonne for September delivery, while France was unchanged at €206 a tonne. Only Ukraine minimally increased weekly quotations by $2 to their levels of a month ago – $227 per ton, and in Russia the change was also zero – $218 per ton.

The price movement of corn in the US and France is in sync this time, with both down by $1 and €2 respectively. Thus, the prices are 182 dollars per ton in the USA and 197 euros per ton in France. Ukraine has seen a decline since the previous move up, with the price falling $4 this week to $208 a tonne.

The price of barley in Ukraine recovered an earlier loss, adding $10 to reach $190 a tonne for September delivery, and rapeseed on the Euronext exchange for November delivery, after a sharp rise and subsequent collapse, this week reduced by another 13.75 euros to 449.75 euros per ton.

Crude sunflower oil contracts on the Rotterdam Stock Exchange have seen a number of swings since the start of the year. After falling sharply a week ago for August delivery, this week for September delivery they are down another $25 to $1,025 a tonne. Refined sugar also continued its long-term swing, after a previous move up and subsequent loss of ground, these days it moved -$1.20 for delivery in October, reaching $512.10 a tonne on the London Stock Exchange.

At the Sofia Commodity Exchange, trade in grain goods remains calm. The price of bread wheat fell and it was available in particularly large quantities at BGN 350 per ton EXW delivery (the seller’s obligation is only to ensure that the buyer has access to the goods). For fodder wheat, demand continued at BGN 340 per ton. Corn for immediate delivery was offered in the range of 360 to 380 BGN per ton, and oilseed sunflower – from 820 to 840 BGN per ton. The offer of fodder barley at a price of BGN 320 per ton is new.

Prices of basic food items remained stable at the same level as initial prices. Oil in bottles was sold at BGN 2.20 per liter, as well as unrefined oil at BGN 1,750 per ton. Yellow peas continue to be offered in big bags of one ton at a starting price of BGN 1,200 per ton.

In the subsection “Industrial goods” of the SSB, there were transactions for natural gas at BGN 1,505.32/thousand cubic meters. and propane butane gas in the range from BGN 950 to BGN 960/thousand liters.
