Father Jeevanta Peiris, who appeared in Fort Magistrate Court today, has been released on bail.

The police are currently arresting those who were involved in the protests that took place in the country in the past months.

Meanwhile, Reverend Jeevanta Peiris, who was at the forefront of the struggle, had filed a fundamental rights petition in the High Court last week seeking an order to stop his arrest.

In this situation, the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release of Reverend Jeevanta Peiris, who was present in the court through lawyers, on bail.

When he was produced in court, the Colombo Central Criminal Investigation Department notified the court to remand him.

However, Colombo Fort Magistrate Dilina Gamage, who rejected this request, ordered Reverend Jeevanta Peiris to be released on two body bonds worth Rs 5 lakh each.

The judge banned Father Jeevanta Peiris from traveling abroad and ordered him to go to the police tomorrow and give a statement.

Further, the complaint has been ordered to be heard again on the 26th.
