Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani directed to honor weightlifter Ali Ammar, after he set two world records at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

A statement by the Prime Minister’s Media Office received by the (INA) stated that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received today, Monday, the head of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Aqeel Muftan, and international weightlifter Ali Ammar, who recently participated in the Paris Olympics.”

He added, “The Prime Minister directed to honor the weightlifter Ali Ammar, to care for him, to provide him with training camps for his upcoming events.”

He added that “Al-Sudani stressed the government’s continued provision of full support and assistance to sports in all its forms, as it represents today a means of reflecting the country’s external image, in addition to being an important entitlement at the level of government commitment towards Iraqi athletes,” explaining that “the Olympic champion project that was established during the current government is an ambitious project to create Olympic champions who compete in the Olympic Games, achieve victory and ascend advanced podiums.”
