LPrime Minister Dr Bernard Goumou chaired this Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the launching ceremony of the first National Water and Sanitation Forum.

The objective of this forum is to establish and validate in a participatory manner a roadmap for the water and sanitation sector aligned with national priorities, current and emerging sector challenges.

As the Minister of Energy, Hydraulics and Hydrocarbons, Aly Seydouba Soumah said‘Guinea is known as the water tower of West Africa, due to its abundant water resources. Similarly sanitation is not well developed. The only sewage system is in the capital, Conakry. And while there are a few sewage treatment plants and pumping stations, they are not fully operational. Improperly managed solid waste, low rates of improved sanitation and weak on-site sanitation services compound these issues”.

But it must be recognized that the country has so far not been able to take full advantage of this gift of nature.

The valuation of resources, the weak protection to meet socio-economic and environmental needs, and above all the under-investment in infrastructure in this vital area are today all factors that weigh on the operational capacity of suppliers in this sector. .

These are the factors that today push the public authorities to make every effort to satisfy the populations. At this forum in Guinea, the budget minister, Dr. Lanciné Condé, did not fail to point this out. To provide a response to these multiple effects, the public authorities must develop appropriate policies and strategies and mobilize the necessary resources to enable the implementation of projects to meet the water needs of populations and achieve sanitation in rural areas. and urban.

Fortunately, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Dr. Bernard Goumou, reiterated the Government’s commitment to meet the needs of the population in terms of water and electricity supply. This is to prevent the low levels of public investment in this sector from leading people to resort to private drilling in an uncontrolled manner. Under the directives of the President of the Transition, the Government is therefore committed to meeting the primary needs of the Guinean population in terms of food, water, electricity, health education and infrastructure. The Prime Minister is aware of this and promises to deal with it.
