The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson and his wife, Carrie Simmonds, announced today (Thursday) the birth of their daughter. This is their second child born since Boris Johnson became prime minister, the new little one is a sister to Wilfred, who was born about a year and a half ago.

The couple said that “a healthy baby, their second child, was born in a London hospital on Thursday morning, both mother and daughter in very good condition,” the couple said in a statement. He added that “the couple would like to thank the NHS’s brilliant maternity team for all their care and support.” The baby is a sister to Wilfred, who was born in April 2020, weeks after the prime minister was treated in intensive care because of a severe Corona virus.

In a post about childbirth, Johnson’s wife wrote: “I now feel lucky to be blessed but at the same time I feel terrible tension.”

The new baby is the fourth baby born to a serving British prime minister in the current century. The wives of leaders Tony Blair and David Cameron also gave birth to babies while their husbands were in office.

The baby was born, a day after the prime minister held a press conference to announce that he imposes restrictions on walking to workplaces, and in crowded places to try to slow the spread of the new version of the corona virus.
