Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought Japan’s cooperation to speed up the operation of Mirpur-10 and Kazipara metro rail stations affected by the recent violence.

On Saturday (July 27), the Prime Minister made this request in a courtesy meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori at his office.

Later, the press secretary of the Prime Minister. Naemul Islam Khan briefed the journalists.

The Japanese ambassador said, first they will assess the damage to the two metro rail stations. Then decide how to help Bangladesh to open these two metro stations.

He said that a handful of people were behind the attack on the metro rail station. Where a large number of people are its beneficiaries.

The Japanese ambassador said that this metro rail was built with the sweat and tears of many people.

Kiminori said he was hurt by the damage to the Metrorail stations.

Iwama Kiminori expressed condolences over the casualties in the recent nationwide clashes centered around the quota reform movement.

Referring to the destruction of various government buildings, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said miscreants have destroyed various government institutions built to provide welfare, security and services to the people.

The prime minister said that the attackers target those institutions which are beneficial to the people. It is very painful.

He said that these structures have been constructed with relentless efforts in the last 15 years.

The Japanese ambassador said his country’s businessmen are eagerly awaiting the public-private economic dialogue to be held in Tokyo in late August.

Kiminori expressed hope that the law and order situation would normalize before the dialogue.

Among others present in the courtesy meeting were – Prime Minister’s Advisor on Private Industry and Investment Salman Fazlur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Ambassador at Large Mohammad Ziauddin, Prime Minister’s Chief Secretary Md. Tofazzal Hossain Mia, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Masood Bin Momen.
