Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to attend the 60th Munich Security Conference to be held in Munich, Germany. He will highlight the security threat that the people of the world are facing as a result of multifaceted conflicts.

The Prime Minister will leave Dhaka tomorrow Thursday (February 15) morning to attend the conference. On the sidelines of the conference, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with the leaders of seven countries including Germany and the European Union.

A press conference was organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (February 14) afternoon to highlight the details of the Prime Minister’s visit. Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, the president of the Munich Security Conference, Ambassador Dr. In addition to participation in the conference at the invitation of Christophe Huygen, the Prime Minister is scheduled to have a courtesy meeting with the top leaders of at least seven countries and three international organizations.

The Minister said that through the participation of the Prime Minister in this conference, besides highlighting the status of Bangladesh on various national and international issues, bilateral meetings with world leaders will also be created. The Munich Security Conference is considered to be the world’s leading forum for regular high-level discussions of contemporary and future security concerns. Heads of state and government of 60 countries, leaders of international organizations and NGOs, media, civil society, public and private sectors will participate in this conference. Through the Prime Minister’s participation in this conference, besides highlighting the status of Bangladesh on various national and international issues, bilateral meetings with world leaders will also be created. On the sidelines of the conference, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with the Chancellor of Germany, the Prime Minister of Denmark, the President of Ukraine, the Foreign Minister of India, representatives of the World Bank, and other world leaders.

When asked what will be the focus of Dhaka in this conference, Foreign Minister said. Hasan Mahmud said, our position is clear. We are against war and for peace. We will highlight the fact that peace is being lost due to various conflicts worldwide and the security of the people of the world is under threat. When asked whether the Myanmar issue will be given importance in the conference, the foreign minister said that Rohingya citizens of Myanmar have taken temporary shelter in Bangladesh. We have security concerns because of them. Again, Myanmar’s internal conflict has created security concerns in the region. The Rohingya issue may come up along with various issues in the conference. We will present to world leaders the case for the full return of those displaced from Myanmar to Myanmar.

When asked whether the Prime Minister’s bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will have any negative impact on relations with Russia, the Foreign Minister said no. There is no question of a negative impact on relations with Russia. Russia is our very friendly country. Russia helped us in the liberation war. After the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to leave Munich for Dhaka on February 18 and arrive on February 19.
