Emmanuel Macron and party leaders meeting on Friday, November 17 in Saint-Denis concluded that a referendum on immigration was not relevant in the absence of consensus on the subject, several participants indicated at the end Of the reunion.

“There will be no referendum on immigration”announced Marine Tondelier (EELV). “A consensus emerged around the table on the fact that it seemed complicated to expand the possibility of holding referendums on societal subjects such as immigration”added the boss of the Communist Party, Fabien Roussel. “There is currently a debate in Parliament.[…] At this time, the possibility of having a referendum on immigration is not on the agenda, is no longer on the agenda.”he insisted.

“The president is not currently considering this possibility”said for his part the president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, the only participant present to demand this consultation. “All political parties do not want this referendum on immigration because it would prove the RN right,” he lamented, postponing this debate to the next European elections.
