They knew, by word of mouth, of the good reputation that Carril clams have, but what some tourists from the Castilian town of Cantalejo who came to visit Betanzos did not expect is the surprise they were going to find at the table , with the bivalves already prepared seafood style.
«My parents, Encar and Pablo, bought three kilos of you crave in O Pedro, in Bergondo, very close to Betanzos. It was at Mariscos Pernas. They always spend their summers in the Carnota area, but they have some friends here, Pili and Manolo, so they never miss visiting the town. On Tuesday they went to the market to buy shellfish and noticed the clams,” says Elena, his daughter.
They were prepared on Thursday to prolong the taste of the Galician summer. “Our surprise was that, while we were eating them, a perlite!», exclaims the daughter of Encar and Pablo, already incorporated into her work in an optician in her native Segovia. This small pearly concretion, as scientifically defined, is dark gray in color.
Although such finds are rare, this summer more vacationers were met with a similar surprise. In June, two tourists from Zaragoza almost ate another perla while dining at Laxe. In Muros and Muxía there were more discoveries. Delicacies with guaranteed prize. “At the moment we don’t know what we are going to do with the pearl, but we do know that we will return to Galicia to continue trying our luck!” Elena smiles.
