In the 34th edition of the Koldo Mitxelena Literary Competition, 25 works have been awarded and 20 works have received a special mention. Specifically, 6 comics, 3 poems, 7 short stories, 4 verses and 5 micro-stories have been highlighted by the jury composed of the comedian Iñaki Martinarena ‘Mattin’, the lyricist Beñat Gaztelumendi and the writers Yolanda Arrieta, Ana Malagon, Inazio Mujika and Arantxa Urretabizkaia.

This year too, the winners of the 14-18 year old categories will have the opportunity to participate in a literary workshop. The five winners of this category will be able to participate in the workshop to be held in Arantza together with the winners of the Basque Government’s Distance Literature Contest. According to Jon Insausti, the representative councilor for Culture and the Basque language, “young people with a literary passion will have the opportunity to meet each other in this workshop and will spend wonderful days. They will have the perfect opportunity to enjoy leisure and literature.”

All have been collected in a booklet and published on the website www.donostiaeuskaraz.eus. On the other hand, all the winners will receive products related to culture: books, ebooks, coloring materials, tablets, etc. In addition to the diploma, those mentioned will receive a voucher of 50 euros each to buy cultural products.

In total, students from 21 schools have joined this year’s edition and 1,307 works have been submitted, maintaining the increase that has occurred during the years of the pandemic, according to the organizers. Last Saturday, May 6, there was an event led by Sara Cozar to reward the winners of the Koldo Mitxelena Literary Competition in the City Council hall.
