The proposal: yes to vaccines for hotel staff – Pescara

MONTESILVANO. There are over two thousand workers in the hotel and catering sectors in Montesilvano, including seasonal workers. For them Adriano Tocco, city councilor and chairman of the Tourism Commission, asks for inclusion among the priority categories in anti-Covid vaccination, with the aim of starting the summer season safely. An “important proposal for the restart”, which comes after the initiatives launched by the Municipality of Montesilvano for the relaunch of tourism and commerce: the My Montesilvano Card and the comic tourist guide with multimedia contents. Tocco’s request was sent to the president of the Abruzzo Region Marco Marsilio, the regional councilor for health Nicoletta Verì, to the leadership of the ASL of Pescara and to the mayor of Montesilvano Ottavio De Martinis. “It is necessary to plan the relaunch of the tourist activity in conditions of full protection of the health of all interested parties”, explains Tocco, “vaccination against Covid-19 represents, for the sector, a useful tool to guarantee the exercise in full safety of the tourist activity. Safety that concerns both professionals and customers, also for the protection of individuals who cannot be vaccinated ».
Waiters, bartenders, floor staff, receptionists, cooks and kitchen workers, entertainers. There are several professional figures involved. “There are 22 hotels in Montesilvano and about fifty restaurants. We get to exceed two thousand working units, if we also consider seasonal workers. Workers in the tourism sector are exposed to risk and it is necessary to give them attention within the vaccine plan. In a couple of days Montesilvano would be able to vaccinate all workers with the first dose, ”he adds. “We have reached an important phase for the restart and strategic collaboration with all entities is crucial”. The signs, Tocco underlines when talking about the start of the summer season, are positive. “Nothing comparable to last year, when, in this period, we were evaluating whether or not to reopen the hotels. There are many requests for information and many reservations. Many ask to be able to use the holiday bonus, inquire about safety protocols and free cancellations. Most of the hotels in Montesilvano will open at the beginning of June, also in view of the sporting events that will be hosted in the city, which will make it possible to cover the period in which the tourist turnout is still low », he specifies. «The month of July is already going very well. We have activated offers to encourage attendance in June. There are requests and reservations too. In the next two weeks we will have a complete picture to judge the trend. Surely having vaccinated personnel would allow us to talk about a safe holiday in an even more important way ».
