The family of the former spokesperson for Moïse Katumbi’s political party, Chérubin Okende, organized a mass this Friday, January 12 at the Notre Dame de Grace parish in the commune of Ngaliema in memory of the deceased, whose remains total 6 months at the morgue, since his death on July 12, 2023. The celebrant of the mass called the whole family to unity to honor the memory of the deceased.
“To Mom, we want to say, on behalf of all the priests here and the parish councils, that our hearts are with you. And the whole family, be at peace to honor this great gentleman, Okende Chérubin,” he said.

The mass was attended by several relatives of Chérubin Okende, former comrades within the party and collaborators with whom they worked at the ministry of transport. For Adam Venant Kiribuni, one of Chérubin’s former collaborators when he was transport minister, accuses the prosecutor of refusing to give the autopsy report to the family before the burial of the deceased.
“We have a feeling of sadness and regret. Removing a national deputy in office from the constitutional court is truly regrettable. The attorney general had said they were waiting for the autopsy report and the car dealer’s report before handing over the body to the family. If the regime is not guilty of anything, why is it refusing to give the report to the family in order to organize the funeral? The prosecutor told us to wait for the autopsy report and the dealer’s report to find out the route of the vehicle on the day of Chérubin’s disappearance. Before burial, we wait for this report, and then the body will be buried. The family is within their rights to know what their brother died of. The Attorney General had said that Chérubin had died from a gunshot without an autopsy, now that there has been an autopsy, we are waiting for the Prosecutor to come and tell us what Chérubin really died of,” Adam Venant told ACTUALITE.CD Kiribuni.
MP and opponent Cherubin Okende was found dead this Thursday, July 13 in Kinshasa. His body was found in his jeep on Heavyweight Avenue. He was kidnapped the day before in the afternoon by armed men, and his relatives have had no news since. His driver and his bodyguard were arrested. The driver was released.
