The Prosecutor’s Office formally accused Oscar Ivan Zuluaga for the Odebrecht case

An assistant prosecutor before the Supreme Court of Justice has filed formal charges against former presidential candidate Óscar Iván Zuluaga Escobar and his son David Zuluaga Martínez, who was the manager of the presidential campaign in 2014.

The charges focus on the alleged commission of crimes of falsification of private documents, procedural fraud and illicit enrichment of individuals.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Evidence has been gathered suggesting that Zuluaga Escobar and Zuluaga Martínez concealed monetary contributions made by the Brazilian multinational Odebrecht during the 2014 electoral campaignThese contributions, which were allegedly illegal, were not reported to the corresponding electoral authorities, which allegedly led public officials to authorize the replacement of votes for an amount of 25.291 billion pesos.

In addition, it is reported that Zuluaga Escobar hid from the National Electoral Council (CNE) a contribution from Odebrecht intended to support his presidential aspiration in both the first and second round of the elections.The police investigation also reveals that the former candidate and several of his advisors met with representatives of Odebrecht in Brazil and Bogotá to agree on the payment of $1,610,740 in fees to a well-known publicist.

For his part, David Zuluaga Martínez faces specific accusations related to his role as campaign manager.He is accused of having submitted income and expenditure reports to the CNE that omitted Odebrecht’s contribution to advertising expenses.

“He is accused of his apparent responsibility in submitting income and expenditure reports to the CNE, without including the contribution attributed to the Brazilian construction company for advertising expenses,” the accusing body stressed.
