The Attorney General’s Office has issued a statement to clarify recent events related to the publication of two videos found on the cell phone of renowned stylist Mauricio Leal Hernández, murdered along with his mother, Marleny Hernández Tabares.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, these videos, which have become public domain, are part of the evidence in the case in which Yhonier Leal Hernándezthe victim’s brother, has been convicted in the first instance.
The videos in question have a duration of 47 and 27 seconds respectively and were discovered by the First Delegate Prosecutor’s Office before the District Court during the accusation hearing..
The Prosecutor’s Office pointed out that these videos were delivered to Yhonier Leal’s defense on July 14, 2022, as part of the judicial process. According to the statement, these audiovisual documents were included in the report of the extraction of the contents of Mauricio Leal’s phone, carried out by the Computer Crimes Group of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Bogotá Section, on December 15, 2021.

This extensive report, exported in a PDF document of more than a million pages, recorded a total of 3,716 videos stored on Mauricio Leal’s device, including the two recently disclosed ones. However, Analysts were unable to identify videos from November 22, 2021, the day of the double homicide, due to the lack of recording dates on the cell phone.
The Prosecutor’s Office has stressed that these videos, although they are part of the evidence, were not used by either the First Delegate Prosecutor’s Office or by Yhonier Leal’s defense in the judicial debates, since their existence was unknown until recently. This new discovery raises questions about the case, but the Prosecutor’s Office assures that all the evidence has always been available to the parties involved in the criminal proceedings.
