The mother of the trampled Ani: “Adrian rushed to create children, and he killed ours, killed their dreams and our unborn grandchildren”
The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office requested 10 years in prison for Adrian Nikolov, who caused the death of Ani and Yavor on Slivnitsa Blvd. in May 2023.
“I support Adrian’s accusation.
His confession is supported by the evidence and, more specifically, what was established by the examination, witnesses, forensic medical examinations, auto-technical, video-technical and complex expertise. Regarding the punishment – it must be determined in the light of the aggravating circumstances,” explained the prosecutor in the case.
And he added – “Adrian drove the car in the conditions of a city Wednesday, in the evening, on a boulevard with pedestrian paths, stops, in a residential neighborhood with buildings. Driving with caution is required, and he drove at a speed of 106 km/h. – 56 km/h over the speed limit. He did not take action to stop or reduce the speed, as well as to avoid the collision. He did not take adequate action to avoid the traffic accident.”
According to the prosecutor’s office, Antonov’s full confession must be taken into account, but also the fact that he did not take into account his inexperience. The prosecutor added that through his punishment there should be general prevention.
Annie and Yavor’s parents also spoke in court
Desislava Malcheva, Ani’s mother, read from a sheet: “We have not only lost our children, but also their children. We are condemned to live the rest of our lives with the insurmountable loss. Adrian stole their hopes, hurried to create a family and children. Bulgarian mothers do not they give birth to children to kill.”
Anna Stoyanova, Yavor’s mother, told about her son: “A wonderful child, smart, talented. He and Ani were young people in love with each other, but also with life. In the last 2-3 years, he was a representative of the European Parliament, won “Erasmus +”, was engaged in photography, exhibitions. They have known each other since the 5th-6th grade, fate separated them for several years, but in 2019 they reunited and were inseparable. A year before the accident, they lived together in the apartment themselves, were engaged. Ani’s father gave Yavor his hand. Ani opened a small studio in the center of Sofia. He had many followers. Yavor was a tour guide.
A month before the tragedy, he had intended to make sugar syrups, he had collected recipes, he needed a little more time to start the company.”
At the moment, the case is being heard under the abbreviated procedure, because the defendant Adrian pleaded guilty and fully accepted the accusation of the prosecutor’s office. This will also reduce his punishment.
Adv. Markovski, the defendant’s defense attorney, asked for a description of Hadrian from the “Church of God of Bulgaria”, which the young man attended, to be attached.
“The judicial act cannot be influenced by external factors and emotions,” added the lawyer.
The father of Yavor, who was killed on a pedestrian crossing, emotionally addressed the judge about the sentence that is about to be imposed on Adrian: “You can press the button and stop this. You have children. This person will be judged by you, but also from above . I call for the maximum punishment. In France, they give 30 years. What if someone sang in a choir? I will not rest until I see him convicted.”
In his final words to the court, Adrian said: “I know it’s not enough to say ‘I’m sorry’. I’m ashamed of myself, I’m extremely remorseful for what I’ve done. I don’t have eyes to look at their families because I know that I am the cause of their pain. I am asking for leniency.”
A year has passed since the accident on the capital’s “Slivnitsa” boulevard, in which the two lovers were hit and killed on a pedestrian path by Adrian.
