The PSC urges the AU Commission to advocate for a comprehensive, integrated and multidimensional approach based on the peace, security and development nexus, which aims to achieve and maintain peace, as well as promote a culture of peace as approved by the processes recognized by the AU, notably the Tangier Conference, we read in a press release published Friday and which sanctioned the Council meeting of November 29 on reconstruction and rehabilitation activities. post-conflict development in Africa.

During this PSC meeting, it will be recalled, the Moroccan delegation highlighted the limits of the purely military approach having demonstrated its limits in dealing with the complex underlying factors of conflicts and tensions in Africa, and presented its plea for the adoption of a global, integrated and multidimensional approach based on the nexus between peace, security and development, an approach which led Morocco to host, from October 25 to 27, 2022, in Tangier, the 1st AU Political Conference on Promoting the Nexus between Peace, Security and Development.

The main conclusions of the Tangier Conference led to the adoption of the Tangier Declaration on promoting the link between peace, security and development in Africa, which was unanimously approved by the PSC member countries, and by the AU Summit during its 36th session, institutionalizing the “Tangier Process” as a regular event, dedicated to the Nexus.
