The socialists have enough votes to decide the presidency of the organization in the assembly next Wednesday

The PSdeG will propose that Alberto Varela, mayor of Vilagarca de Arousa y current president of the Galician Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (Fegamp), remains in charge of the body that brings together the local administrations of Galicia.
The Fegampcelebrate this coming WednesdayNovember 15 a general assemblyin which to renew its management bodies. And everything indicates that Varela revalidate the presidency. Although the PP was the force with the most votes in the municipal elections, the number of votes is calculated according to the population of the municipalities, so the PSdeG can retain the position. And the Galician socialists have decided to support a new candidacy by Varela, who in addition to being mayor of Vilagarca and president of Fegamp, is also the secretary of Municipal Politics of the party’s national executive.
As Europa Press has learned, the PSdeG leadership has unanimously supported the proposal. It was one of the issues addressed by the Galician National Executive Commission, meeting on an extraordinary basis yesterday Saturday.
Alberto Varela, for his part, thanked the party leadership for its trust in a moment that he described as decisive. After a first term marked by the pandemic, he now considers that it is time to claim before the Xunta that he cannot continue to burden the Galician councils.
Thus, the socialist sees it as essential that the Galician Government attends to the rightful demand for more funding, and also that it assumes all the powers at once and that it does not continue to burden the municipalities, because, otherwise, fundamental services, such as the help at home or social services.
Wednesday’s will be XI Extraordinary General Assembly of la Fegamp. It will be celebrated in the Santiago Congress Palace, and the participation of 270 councils and the four councils is planned. At the meeting, the management report will be approved and the organization’s strategic plans will be addressed, in addition to electing and renewing its management bodies. Specifically, a new Federal Council and a new Executive Commission will be elected, based on the candidates presented. The number 1 of the most voted candidate will be proclaimed president of Fegamp, and number 2, executive vice president. In addition, whoever heads the second most voted list will be named first vice president and the number one on the third most supported list will be second vice president.
The mayor of Santiago, Goretti Sanmartín, and the first vice president of the Xunta, Diego Calvo, are expected to participate in the opening of the event. For the closing, the presence of the president of the Xunta is expected, in addition to the intervention of the new president of the Fegamp.
