The Public Council sent to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) its proposal to set up an expert group and work on a technical analysis of the reasons for printing a blank white ballot or one in which the voter’s vote from machine voting in the “two-in-one” elections is not written ” on June 9, 2024. This was announced by the press center of the Public Council of the CEC.

The council indicated that they consider this problem to be particularly significant and undermine citizens’ confidence in the electoral process.

Unlike other more trivial machine voting problems – power supply, batteries, printers, card readers, etc., this particular type of defect, manifested and documented in the 2023 election as well, has so far been unexplained.

According to them, this requires independent in-depth technical analysis. Given the current organization of by-elections, as well as the likelihood of new early national elections, this analysis should be conducted as soon as possible, the council added.

At the end of the election day, CEC spokesperson Rositsa Mateva announced that there are about 145 machines that are not functioning, which is about one and a half percent of all machines – 9,601.
