United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the appointment of Sudanese Amir Mahmoud Abdulla as the organization’s coordinator for the Black Sea Grains Initiative, the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform reports.

Abdulla replaces American Frederick Kenney, on loan from the International Maritime Organization as interim United Nations coordinator at the Joint Coordination Center.

“Abdulla brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the areas of humanitarian response and management of the World Food Program (WFP), as well as specialized skills in emergency operations, the supply chain and security,” the UN said.
