The XXIV Queen’s Trophy – Tribute to the Navy Regatta – XXXV Almirante Marcial Sánchez-Barcaíztegui Cup was presented this Thursday at the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Valencia. The 2023 edition is to be congratulated, since the organization of the emblematic regatta has once again managed to exceed one hundred boats for the fleet that will enter the fray in the waters of Valencia. In addition, the regatta is part of the J80 Spanish Cup calendar and the inclusion of a long regatta in the test program will also be a novelty.

Rocío Gil, councilor of the Valencia City Council; Marisa Arlandis, president of the Real Club Náutico de Valencia; Carlos Torrado, president of the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community; Rafel Chirivella, director of the Trophy; and Pedro Quiroga, sports director of the RCNV.

Marisa Arlandis thanked the support of the Navy for the regatta, which is precisely a tribute to the institution, and to the Royal Family. The president of the RCN of Valencia stressed that «It had been more than fifteen years since we had a hundred boats, and it is not only the quantity, but the quality. We have worked a lot and very hard during the year, we have gone to the clubs, congresses, regattas to present what we do». Furthermore, he added that «We have bet heavily on the J80 class because it is a way of arrival for children and youth sailing to cruising sailing, and we are adding this type of boats to all ages. It is very attractive and accessible to young people and is the most strategic part of the club. In fact, we have promoted a boat together with the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community, which will participate in the regatta».

«We present one of the most important nautical events in Spain. We have gone step by step and have grown a true colossus like the Queen. She was born as a trophy in honor of the Navy, but we have not stopped innovating and improving. We have the wind in our favor. The regatta fields have an excellent wind regime and this weighs heavily when sailing. That is why everyone wants to come to Valencia, not only because of the tourist attraction of the city, but also because of our sea»explained Rafel Chirivella.

For her part, Rocío Gil commented that «The trophy is a magnificent showcase with which we show Valencia to the world. We have one of the best regatta courses, great potential and the Real Club Náutico has an ally in the Valencia City Council”.

In addition, Carlos Torrado considered that the «The world of sailing and this competition generate employment, sports tourism and income, since we are talking about a powerful industry that is committed to the city. The support of the institutions is important so that the test continues to be a reference in the circuit. There are many pending looks these days of the competition ».

It is a long test with two crew members per boat, incorporating safety measures and on-board requirements that are higher than inshore races. They will complete a 220-mile journey, going around Ibiza and Formentera, leaving them to starboard and returning to Valencia.
