The race horse galloped off the hippodrome

A two-year-old mare named Bold and Bossy (literally “Distant and Powerful”) decided to prove that she had such a formidable name for a reason.

During the races at Ellis Park Racecourse in Kentucky, a young horse on its way to the starting gate threw off jockey Miguel Menou, who was sitting on it, circled the racetrack track, jumped over the enclosing dam and jumped out onto a nearby highway. First, Bold and Bossy rode Interstate 69 and Veterans Memorial Highway, and then headed for Interstate 41. Racetrack coaches in their cars, as well as police vehicles summoned to help, chased after her.

When the runaway was stopped by her owner and trainer Michael Ewing and his wife, it was revealed that she had lost two horseshoes and suffered minor trauma to the back of her forefoot – apparently from a blow from her hind hooves – but was otherwise “safe and sound.” The mare was rushing along the highway, dangerously close to cars, and besides, she was wearing blinders that limited her visibility. “Thank God everything worked out and thanks to everyone who helped us find Bold and Bossy and get her back,” Ewing said.
