Even if its members want to continue the activity, the railway cooperative should very quickly be placed in receivership or liquidation.

You don’t give up easily on a dream. Since the end of 2019, the Railcoop cooperative has been working on a project which has received a lot of attention: reopening the Bordeaux-Lyon line to passengers by increasing the number of stops in medium-sized towns (Roanne, Montluçon, Gannat, etc.). Quite the opposite of a TGV: this train, which would travel at an average of 90 km/h, would make the journey in more than seven hours, irrigating the “diagonal of the void”. With this idea, Railcoop convinced more than 14,000 members and around twenty local authorities who contributed a total of more than 8 million euros. But following risky choices, the company no longer has a penny in its pocket.

However, during its general meeting on Saturday, 88.5% of members voted for the continuity of the activity. And, by an overwhelming majority, they approved the continuation of negotiations with the investment fund Serena Partners. This Spanish fund could provide a quarter of the 49 million euros needed to reopen Bordeaux-Lyon…
