On July 23, 2022, a historic event took place in the German capital: on the occasion of the Christopher Street Day (CSD) gay parade, the rainbow flag was raised on the Reichstag building for the first time. This flag will be handed over by Bundestag President Bärbel Bas to the German Historical Museum on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 and will be included in its collection. The rainbow flag will be received by Raphael Gross, President of the German Historical Museum Foundation.

“The rainbow flag in our parliament means a lot to me,” Bundestag President Berbel Bas said last year on the occasion of the historic flag-raising on the Reichstag building. The same applies to the gay parade, with which, according to the politician, she feels “closely connected.” According to the President of the Parliament, she has been taking part in the parade dedicated to the rights of sexual minorities, which takes place annually in her hometown of Duisburg, for many years.

This year, the rainbow flag will fly twice over the Reichstag building: on May 17 – in honor of the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia and during the Gay Pride in Berlin, which will be held on July 22.
