Muhammad Al-Dinali, Director of the Information and Communication Office of the Libyan Red Crescent, “Tokra Branch,” confirmed in a statement to the “Ain Libya” network, that “rains in the region have now returned and are very heavy,” pointing to “the need for great support so that the results are not disastrous, and noting that the region Bou Jarrar is still in the red circle.”
Al-Dinali said: “Since the beginning of the winter season and the weather forecast of heavy rainfall, instructions were given to the central emergency room within the Red Crescent, to declare a state of maximum emergency, and the state of preparedness was raised and major concentration points were established, including the Tokar Center areas and the Driana area.”
He added: “The municipality is subject to major and very dangerous valleys, including Wadi Sidi Moussa and Wadi Jazza, and these valleys are very, very dangerous,” noting that “if these medicines were filled and flooded, the result would be disastrous.”
He added: “Yesterday, Friday, the concentration point near the Bou Jarrar area gave the signal that the water level was rising, so the emergency room directed the teams towards the ambulance and evacuation teams towards the Bou Jarrar area,” saying: “At the beginning of the hours of the rising water level, the situation was very, very dangerous.” Nearly thirty houses were evacuated and damaged within the Bou Jarrar area, and in a very record time, the paths of this water toward the sea were opened, and the coastal road was cleaned.”
He pointed out that “the waters caused the coastal road linking the Tokar Al-Markaz area to Benghazi to be cut off, and work was done in record time to open these paths and secure these families’ exit from their homes.”
He said: “The situation is now stable, but the weather is cloudy and we expect rain. The Bou Jarrar area is still under the red circle of Red Crescent operations, and our teams are still working inside the area and are present on the coastal road.”
He added: “We are now evacuating the homes near the valleys near Wadi Sidi Moussa, and now we are working to attract support, especially for the people of the Bou Jarrar area and the affected families.”
Al-Dinali concluded by saying: “We lack support greatly, whether it is in-kind support for these families or logistical support, so that we can provide greater and better services to the people of the municipality of Tokar and those affected in the event that the issue worsens further,” adding that “the losses are all material, damage to homes as well as the death of animals.” “.
