Osama Ali, spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Service, confirmed that the rains have stopped in the city of Kufra, noting that the city’s situation is good now and things are fine, and the rains are gradually moving to the southwest.

Ali stressed, in a statement to the “Ain Libya” network, that “there were no deaths as a result of the storm in Kufra,” saying: “19 citizens were evacuated from their homes due to flooding, and 36 cases were transferred from Kufra Hospital to all hospitals surrounding the Kufra area, and 6 cases were rescued after being stung by poisonous scorpions.”

The spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Department added that “work was done in all the affected areas, and everyone was transferred out of the affected areas, and the cases were treated and the ground floor of Attia Al-Kassah Hospital was evacuated.”

The city of Kufra witnessed unprecedented heavy rains, which led to torrential floods that submerged parts of the city and caused significant material losses.

Libyan meteorologist Ali Abu Khreis confirmed to the “Ain Libya” network that “what happened in Kufra and the southern regions is not strange, and these are seasonal rains that always happen.”

Regarding fears of a repeat of the Derna disaster, Abu Khreis said: “This will not happen, but rain is expected, especially in the Aouzou area.”
