After a long time, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is holding a rally in the capital today without any hindrance.
On Wednesday (August 7) in front of the Nayapaltan BNP central office in the capital, the rally officially started from 2 pm. It is said that Tariq Rahman, Acting Chairman of BNP will be the chief guest.
The party’s general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will preside over the rally.
After the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, BNP leaders and activists all over the country rejoiced in victory. Meanwhile, BNP started the work of preparing the rally stage in front of Nayapaltan party office from Tuesday night. The team continued the stage work without any hindrance from the administration. From this morning, the leaders and activists started gathering at the assembly place with a procession from different parts of the capital.
The atmosphere around the party’s central office in Nayapaltan has changed due to today’s rally. For the past decade, members of the law and order forces, including the police, could be seen surrounding the office of the party. That scene is not seen today. Not only the BNP office, no policeman has been seen anywhere in Dhaka for the past two days.
Meanwhile, banners and festoons bearing pictures of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, freed on the order of the President, are adorning various places of the rally ground. Not only that, a banner-festoon with the picture of Tariq Rahman, the party’s acting chairman, was also seen. Microphones have also been installed around the rally from Paltan in the capital to Motijheel Shapla Chattar, Kakrail to Shantinagar and Paltan Mor.
The BNP leaders and activists who came to the rally say that earlier they used to face obstacles on their way to the rally and were sometimes attacked. Besides, there was a possibility of arresting them from the gathering place or from the way of coming and going. They did not face any such situation today. They also said that they have been able to sleep peacefully in their homes for the past 2-3 days, now they are not afraid of arrest.
It is being said from the microphone of the assembly stage, today we are free. I have won. Now many opportunity-seekers will want to join the group. They will want to create chaos among themselves. It cannot be allowed to happen. Leaders and activists are also being instructed to guard important structures including the judge’s residence, Paltan police station from the platform.
