The announcement that presented the Renewable Energy Status Report for 2021 raised encouraging data. Not only did the rate of connection of renewable energy generation facilities in the second quarter of the year improve, but also the power equal to 9.4% of average annual consumption (3656 megawatts). This means that 8.1% of the total energy consumed in Israel in 2021 was from renewable sources.

The report also includes relevant indices and data such as the power obtained from power generation facilities using renewable energy, their annual production capacity, the amount of energy they actually produce compared to the general electricity consumption in Israel along with explanations of how the data and indices were calculated.

In addition, the report details not only the steps and actions taken by the Electricity Authority and the Ministry of Energy in 2021, but also their plans for 2022 that are designed to increase the pace of integration of renewable energies into Israel’s electricity sector.

The Electricity Authority and the Ministry of Energy continue to work to promote the electricity economy in Israel, in particular renewable energies, in order to create a clean, efficient, safe and reliable electricity economy for consumers while creating economic competition.

Energy Minister Karin Elharar noted that while it is an ongoing and daily struggle to meet the set target (20% energy from renewable sources by 2025), her office is leading the process and doing everything in collaboration with other parties (like the Electricity Authority) to reach it.

Ministry of Energy Director General Lior Shilat added that all of his ministry’s actions are aimed at meeting this goal, so the Ministry of Energy’s work plan includes many actions to study in depth the challenges they face, release barriers to entrepreneurs, support new technology research and more.

The chairman of the Electricity Authority, Yoav Katzboy, noted that the report was made in recognition of the importance of transparency and the ongoing presentation of reliable data. He said this report is important to drive processes, carry out future planning and act in order to meet the goals set by the government.
