The reason why the VAR referees sent Greenfeld to the screen

A big drama took place at the 11A Stadium this evening. In the 88th minute of the game, one minute after stepping onto the field, Derek Luxen, Maccabi Tel Aviv’s new player, scored what was supposed to be the winning goal for the Yellows in the game. However, VAR had other plans and sent match referee Oral Greenfeld to look at the move on the screen. But why was Greenfeld actually sent to watch himself and not wait for a final answer from the video judges, as in other cases in which he was distinguished during the course? The explanation is simple.

At the time of the move, Enrique Saborit was in the gap and he doubtless touched the raised ball, before it reached Luxen. Because the decision on whether or not to stand out depended on Saborit’s touch on the move, the video umpires sent Greenfeld to the screen to verify the ball was touched. If Savorit had not touched the ball, the goal might have been approved and the decision as to whether or not there was a touch should be taken by the match referee Oral Greenfeld.

Greenfeld finally determined that Saborit touched the ball during the move and therefore canceled the winning goal on the defender’s gap during the move and hence the Yellows were no longer able to score another goal and they lost first points in the Premier League this season, with three wins and one draw in the four games they played.
