The rebellion against high prices

by time news

Higher living costs are driving frustrated people onto the streets around the world. The wave of protests has also reached Europe.

The consequences of the Ukraine war are currently also evident in burning toll booths and looted shops in far away Peru: In the Latin American country, the frustration of the people at the barely affordable cost of living is venting on the streets. Inflation is being driven by bottlenecks and skyrocketing costs for export products from Russia and Ukraine.

Tensions in Peru are no exception, with protests escalating from Sudan to Sri Lanka over high prices. In other countries, the situation is so tense that it threatens to explode at any time: in Kenya, there was panic buying at gas stations. In Morocco, Tunisia or Libya, just before the start of Ramadan, there were hardly any staple foods such as flour and semolina to buy.
