The man from Kaunas covered 50 kilometers in 2 hours. 49 min. and 11 sec. – this is the new national record. The previous best was held by Alexander Sorokin (2h 53m 51s).
“I was really scared that I would have to run a lot of laps,” admitted R. Kančys. – However, I started living in the distance with five kilometers – I was counting whether I would be able to finish in at least one of the “top five”. The funny thing is that I couldn’t afford it until the finish line.”
When asked what was more fun – the Lithuanian record or being crowned in the distance, A. Sorokinas, a participant of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, laughed.
“Alexander will never be crowned,” he said. – He will still be a record holder… Well, but a record holder. I’m more pleased to think that I managed to break the record, I’m not really thinking about being crowned. I won’t hide that I felt a little bit of pressure for the record, but it was quite enjoyable. Many wrote and tried to support. Now I understand that there is nothing nicer than a simple message and the words “Remigius, you can”. Besides, I wanted to prove to myself that I could. The first time I ran 50 kilometers on a much more challenging course, I was just a few magical seconds short. That curse seemed to haunt me. Today I threw it off and proved that I can run 50 kilometers, but things don’t always turn out the way I want them to.”
Brazilian Gabriel Bastos Barros crossed the finish line of the 50 kilometer run in “The World’s Fastest Run powered by Nord Security” in second place (2 hours 58 minutes and 55 seconds), Arminas Rimkus was third (3 hours 20 minutes and 7 seconds). ).
“My career has been rather bumpy, but I have never lacked internal motivation,” said R. Kančys. – I will admit that today’s result is very motivating. Maybe some people have already “written me off”, but I can say that there is still a beast in me that wants to show up and prove a lot.”
When asked if it will be possible to talk about the European 50 kilometer record now, R. Kančys laughed again: “I think that everything is possible.”
“It would only be fun if I had someone to “push” with on the track and in training – we need people who would work shoulder to shoulder in this direction… But today I live with a Lithuanian record,” said the runner.
