The parents of the teenager who committed suicide in Poissy on Tuesday had warned the school of the harassment their child was experiencing. According to documents that could be obtained BFMTVthe Versailles rectorate responded by threatening them with slanderous denunciation in the face of the “supposed harassment” of their son.

Last Tuesday, in Poissy, a 15-year-old teenager ended his life at his home. This boy, enrolled in 3rd career prep at the Adrienne-Bolland vocational high school in Poissy, had reported harassment in December 2022. He had returned to school this week in another establishment, in Paris.

According to the Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, on Wednesday, the parents protested in the spring of 2023 against insufficient consideration by the institution of their son’s situation. BFMTV had access to the letter they wrote in April and sent to the school. In it, they display their “incomprehension” in the face of the inaction of this high school which “let[e] a teenager to suffer such verbal and psychological violence.” They also claim that they are preparing to file a complaint and consider the principal “responsible if a disaster were to happen to [leur] fils ».

“Adopt a constructive and respectful attitude”

Two weeks later, the Versailles rectorate responded to their letter, threatening them with slanderous denunciation. He accuses the parents of having “questioned the functions and threatened to file a complaint against the management staff of the vocational school”. The institution also questions “the supposed harassment” suffered by the teenager who committed suicide on Tuesday.

By asking parents to “adopt a constructive and respectful attitude”, the rectorate highlights the article of the Penal Code which punishes slanderous denunciations, punishable by five years of imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euros. The letter concludes with the threat to “take all necessary measures both for the proper functioning of the public service of National Education and for the protection and security of the personnel who contribute to it”.
