The refugees from Ukraine surprised: “We want circumcision”

by time news

Almost five months after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the refugee families continue to receive warm and embracing treatment that helps them acclimatize. At the initiative of ‘Chabad Youth in Aliya’, it was decided to open camps in the Holy Land for the children of the Jewish immigrants from Ukraine in the Russian language.

This week, at the peak of the camp for boys, several mature boys approached their parents and instructors and asked them to observe the mitzvah of circumcision that they had not yet received.

The first cycle for girls started a few weeks ago, with a variety of activities and particularly invested sessions. Nearly 300 girls participated in the camp, a record number for a new and dedicated camp that opened this year for the first time.

After Tisha B’Av, the second cycle for boys opens and it will last for about two days, with a program rich in content. Hundreds of children also participate in this camp.

For the unique camps, young instructors who speak the language came especially from the USA, who have experience in running Yeka summer camps in Ukraine, and who also have many years of familiarity with the immigrant children. In addition, the instructors have rich experience and are matched with a special value program.

“The Lubavitcher Rebbe explained many times the tremendous importance of the camps and the enormous spiritual charge they give to every boy and girl,” says Chabad Youth Chairman Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Ahronov, “these camps, with the participation of hundreds of boys and girls, are an unimaginably huge action of a team that gives itself with all its heart out of a true mission and immense care.”
